Quadratic Equations

Quadratic Equation:
A quadratic equation in x is an equation that can be written in the form ax²+bx+c=0; where a,b and c are real numbers and a ≠ 0.
Another name for a quadratic equation in x is 2nd Degree Polynomial in x.
The following equations are the quadratic equations:

  • x² - 7x + 10 = 0;      a = 1, b = -7, c = 10
  • 3x² - x = 0;              a = 3, b = -1, c = 0
  • x² = 4;                     a = 1, b = 0, c = -4
Hence the solution of the quadratic equation ax²+bx+c=0 is given by:
which is called Quadratic Formula.
